On iPhone and iPad, AromaOtt works through the web player in Safari: sign in at aromaott.com and watch, with no app to install. When you go full screen, the video opens in Apple's own player, with its native controls, rotation, AirPlay and picture in picture. There is no AromaOtt app for iPhone or iPad.
How do I start on an iPhone or iPad?
- Open Safari and go to aromaott.com.
- Choose Member sign-in and sign in with your account or your activation code.
- The player opens with Live TV, Movies and Series. On an iPhone held upright, Live TV shows categories first, then channels.
Other browsers on iPhone and iPad work too, because they all use the same engine as Safari, but some features below are Safari-only.
How does full screen work?
On iPhone, video plays in the system's own full-screen player. Select Full screen in the player, or the Full screen pill under the Live TV picture, and Apple's player takes over:
- native play, pause and seek controls;
- the picture turns with the phone;
- AirPlay and picture in picture buttons from the system.
On iPad the Full screen pill under the Live picture opens Apple's player the same way. Close full screen to return to the AromaOtt screens.
How do I use AirPlay?
- In Safari: when an AirPlay receiver such as an Apple TV or a compatible TV is on the same network, an AirPlay button appears in the player. Select it and pick the receiver. The button shows when playback is on the receiver.
- In other iPhone browsers: Apple only lets Safari open the AirPlay picker from a web page. Go full screen first and use the AirPlay button in Apple's player.
Playback on the receiver is tied to your device and session, like any playback of your account.
How do I use picture in picture?
Start a video, go full screen, and select the picture-in-picture button in Apple's player. The video keeps playing in a small window while you use other apps.
What about http playlists on iPhone?
Many providers use plain http addresses, which a secure page cannot load. For a playlist that plays on your device, Safari has an advantage: it can play such streams itself on a plain http page of the player. The player then shows:
- Open in the HTTP player: the title opens there and your iPhone reaches the provider directly. That page is plain http, not encrypted, and the offer says so.
- Play through our server: the title plays through our server instead, if the provider accepts it.
There are limits: Safari cannot play live streams that a provider offers only as MPEG-TS, and some file formats cannot be played in any browser. In those cases the player falls back through our server once, then says so.
Is the AromaOtt Web Helper needed on iPhone?
No, and it cannot be installed there. The helper is for desktop browsers. On iPhone and iPad, the HTTP player covers the same case.
Which other features work on iPhone and iPad?
Everything in the web player: My List (kept in the browser), resume points, several playlists, subtitles, audio tracks, search and settings. The theme follows your choice of Auto, Light or Dark.
What if a channel does not play?
- If the player says This channel couldn't play directly on this device, try again, open AromaOtt in Safari if you were in another browser, or try another device.
- If the provider refuses our server and the HTTP player is not offered, the line may be set to play through our server only. Ask whoever manages your account.
