Fire TV sticks, the Fire TV Cube and Fire TV Edition sets (sold under brands such as Toshiba, Insignia and Xiaomi) all run Fire OS, so AromaOtt Player installs the same way on each: turn on developer options, install Downloader, allow it to install unknown apps, type aromaott.com/apk and sign in with a code from your phone. For smoother live motion, try Match original frame rate.
Which devices does this guide cover?
- Fire TV Stick (2nd generation or newer), Fire TV Stick 4K models and the Fire TV Cube.
- Fire TV Edition smart TVs, where Fire OS is built into the set, in every size the brand sells.
A Fire TV Edition set and a stick share the same system. The set adds its own picture and sound settings, but the app menus and the install steps match.
How do I install the app?
- Developer options: go to Settings → My Fire TV. If Developer options is missing, open About and press OK seven times on the device name.
- Downloader: search for Downloader on the home screen and install it from the Amazon Appstore.
- Allow installs: open Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options → Install unknown apps and turn it on for Downloader. On older models the switch is Apps from Unknown Sources.
- Download: open Downloader, type aromaott.com/apk and select Go.
- Install: select Install, then Open.
- Tidy up: delete the downloaded file when Downloader offers it.
AromaOtt Player is not in the Amazon Appstore; Downloader only fetches the file from aromaott.com.
How do I sign in?
- The app shows an 8-character code and a QR code.
- On your phone, scan the QR code or open aromaott.com/activate and type the code.
- Check the device and country, then choose Yes, sign in.
The code is valid for 10 minutes. You can also use an activation code or your username and password.
Which Fire TV settings help live playback?
Match original frame rate lets the Fire TV switch the screen to the frame rate of the video, for example 50 Hz for many broadcast channels.
- It is usually under Settings → Display & Sounds → Display, or Display & Audio → Display on some models. Names vary by Fire OS version.
- Turn it on if motion judders on live channels.
- Turn it off if the screen goes black for a second at each channel change, or if the picture cuts in full screen while the preview is fine.
On a Fire TV Edition set, the TV's own picture menu may also offer motion smoothing. Switching it off for live channels is worth a try if fast motion shows artefacts.
What does the player offer on Fire TV?
- Settings → Player → Buffer size: Automatic by default since version 2.2.5. A channel that stalls twice within a minute gets a bigger buffer on this device and returns to the quick one after 10 calm minutes.
- Settings → Player → Live stream format: try HLS if a channel does not start on MPEG-TS, or the other way round.
- From version 2.2.7: Match TV refresh rate (off by default) and Video output with Automatic, Surface and Texture. If you turn on both the Fire TV's Match original frame rate and the player's setting and the screen blanks more often, keep only one of them on.
Why does an older stick struggle?
Older sticks have less memory and a slower chip. Since version 2.2.6, very large playlists open at once and load lists as you open them, which helps. A stick made for HD cannot decode every 4K or HEVC stream, though: if one channel has sound but no picture, that is usually the reason.
What if something goes wrong?
- Install unknown apps does not list Downloader: open Downloader once, then check again.
- Downloader cannot open the address: type aromaott.com/apk without spaces.
- Device limit reached: the app lists your devices and lets you sign one out.
- Anything else: copy Settings → About → Diagnostics and send it to whoever manages your account.
