The guide you need depends on your TV's platform, not on its size: Android TV and Google TV sets, Fire TV sticks and Fire TV Edition sets, Chinese Android sets without Google Play, and Android boxes can install AromaOtt Player; Samsung and LG sets cannot, and use the web player in their browser instead. A 32-inch and a 75-inch TV of the same family follow the same steps.
Why does screen size not matter?
Settings do not depend on the size of the screen. What decides the menus you see is the system the TV runs and its firmware version. Two TVs of different sizes from the same brand and year share the same software, so they have the same menus. Two TVs of the same size from different brands can be completely different.
That is why these guides are written per platform and brand family. The common sizes are named in the article on screen sizes for people who search that way.
How do I tell which platform my TV runs?
- Open the TV's Settings and look for About, Device information or System. It usually names the system (Android TV, Google TV, Fire OS, Tizen, webOS) and its version. Names vary by firmware.
- Look at the home screen. A row of apps with Google's design means Android TV or Google TV. An Amazon home screen means Fire TV. Samsung and LG have their own home bars along the bottom of the screen.
- Check the remote. A microphone button that opens Google's assistant points to Android TV or Google TV; an Amazon remote points to Fire TV.
- If you are still unsure, search the model number printed on the sticker at the back of the TV, together with the word "Android".
Which guide applies to my TV?
| What you have | Can it install the app? | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips, Xiaomi, Nokia or Thomson set with Android TV or Google TV | Yes | Android TV and Google TV sets |
| Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, or a Fire TV Edition set (Toshiba, Insignia, Xiaomi and others) | Yes | Fire TV sticks and Fire TV Edition sets |
| Samsung smart TV (Tizen) | No, web player in the browser | Samsung TVs |
| LG smart TV (webOS) | No, web player in the browser | LG TVs |
| WEIYUE or a similar Android set without Google Play | Usually yes | Chinese Android TV sets |
| Xiaomi Mi Box or Mi TV Stick | Yes | Xiaomi Mi Box and TV Stick |
| NVIDIA Shield | Yes | NVIDIA Shield |
| X96, T95, H96 and similar boxes | Usually yes | Generic Android boxes |
Every platform that can install the app needs Android 7.1 or newer. For Fire TV, that means a Fire TV Stick of the 2nd generation or newer.
What if my TV cannot install apps at all?
You have two ways:
- The web player: open aromaott.com in the TV's browser. It switches to TV mode, with large text and remote navigation, and you can sign in with a code from your phone. Browsers on TVs differ from model to model, and some may not play every stream.
- A stick or box: plug a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV device into a free HDMI port and install the app there. This is usually the steadier route for live channels.
What is the same on every TV?
Whatever the platform, a few things do not change:
- AromaOtt Player is a private player for AromaOtt members, free for members and activated by the operator. It has no channels, movies or series of its own: it plays the playlist set up on your account, or an M3U or Xtream playlist you are entitled to use.
- The short download address for TVs is aromaott.com/apk.
- Signing in needs no typing: the TV shows a code, and you approve it at aromaott.com/activate on your phone.
- Once installed, the app checks aromaott.com for updates every time it starts.
What if the picture cuts only in full screen?
That symptom is linked to how the TV switches its display, not to the player's lists. It has its own article with the TV settings to try and, from version 2.2.7, two settings in the player itself.
