On a Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips, Xiaomi, Nokia or Thomson set with Android TV or Google TV, install Downloader from Google Play, allow it to install unknown apps, type aromaott.com/apk and select Go, then sign in with a code from your phone. Afterwards, check the TV's frame-rate setting if live channels judder. The steps are the same on every screen size.

Which TVs does this guide cover?

Any set that runs Android TV or Google TV built in, version 7.1 or newer. Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips, Xiaomi, Nokia and Thomson all sell such sets, often across many sizes from 32 to 75 inches or more. The size makes no difference; the brand's software layer and the firmware version decide what the menus are called.

If your set has no Google Play, see the guide on Chinese Android sets instead.

How do I install the app?

  1. Open Google Play on the TV, search for Downloader and install it.
  2. Allow Downloader to install apps. The switch is usually under Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources, or Settings → Privacy → Security & restrictions on Google TV. Some sets call it Install unknown apps. Names vary by firmware version.
  3. Turn the switch on for Downloader only.
  4. Open Downloader, type aromaott.com/apk in the address box and select Go. The download starts by itself.
  5. Select Install, then Open.
  6. Delete the downloaded file when Downloader offers it. The app stays installed.

How do I sign in?

  1. The app opens on Sign in on this TV with an 8-character code and a QR code.
  2. On your phone, scan the QR code or open aromaott.com/activate and type the code.
  3. Check the device name and country, then choose Yes, sign in.

The code is valid for 10 minutes and works once. You can also use an activation code or your username and password.

Which TV settings help live playback?

Android TV can switch the screen's refresh rate to match the video. Broadcasts in many countries run at 50 frames per second, while menus run at 60 Hz, so matching can make motion smoother.

  • The setting is usually under Settings → Display & Sound → Advanced display settings, or under Settings → Device Preferences → Display & Sound on older Android TV versions. Names vary by firmware version.
  • It is often called Match content frame rate, Auto frame rate or Refresh rate: Auto.
  • On some sets it offers Seamless only, Always or Never.

Try it if motion judders. If the screen goes black for a second at every channel change, or the picture cuts only in full screen, set it to Never or Off.

Picture processing such as motion smoothing can also be worth switching off for live channels if you see artefacts on fast motion.

What does the player itself offer?

  • Settings → Player → Buffer size: since version 2.2.5, Automatic is the default. Channels start quickly, and a channel that stalls twice within a minute gets a bigger buffer on this device. Choose Large yourself on weak Wi-Fi.
  • Settings → Player → Live stream format: switch between MPEG-TS and HLS if a channel will not start.
  • From version 2.2.7, Settings → Player → Match TV refresh rate (off by default) lets the app ask the TV to switch refresh rate for each stream, and Video output (Automatic, Surface, Texture) helps sets that cut only in full screen.

Since version 2.2.6, very large playlists open at once, which matters on TVs with little memory.

What if something does not work?

  • Downloader is not in the list of apps allowed to install: open Downloader once, then look again.
  • "App not installed": an older copy with a different signature is installed. Uninstall it first.
  • Sound but no picture on one channel: the stream may use a video format the TV's chip cannot decode.
  • Something else: Settings → About → Diagnostics shows how your last plays went. Copy it when you ask whoever manages your account for help.

Questions and answers

Is the setup different on Google TV?

Only the menu names. Google TV runs on Android TV, so the install steps are the same; the security switch may be under Apps or under Privacy, depending on the firmware version.

Should I turn on Match content frame rate?

Try it if live channels judder or if motion looks uneven. If the picture goes black for a second at every channel change, or cuts in full screen, turn it off again.

My Sony and my TCL show different menus. Is that a problem?

No. Each brand adds its own layer on top of Android TV, and firmware updates move entries around. Look for the wordings given in this guide rather than an exact path.
