A Xiaomi Mi Box S or Mi TV Stick runs Android TV (or Google TV on newer models), so AromaOtt Player installs with Downloader from Google Play: allow Downloader under unknown sources, type aromaott.com/apk, install, and sign in with a code from your phone. Keep some storage free, and remember that the HD stick cannot show 4K.
Which Xiaomi devices does this cover?
- Mi Box S and its newer Google TV generation.
- Mi TV Stick (HD) and the 4K stick.
- Xiaomi TVs with Android TV or Google TV built in follow the Android TV guide; the steps are the same.
All of them run Android 7.1 or newer, which the app needs.
How do I install the app?
- Open Google Play, search for Downloader and install it.
- Go to Settings → Device Preferences → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources and turn it on for Downloader. On Google TV models it may be under Settings → Privacy → Security & restrictions. Names vary by firmware version.
- Open Downloader, type aromaott.com/apk and select Go.
- Select Install, then Open.
- When Downloader offers to delete the file, delete it: it frees space on a device that has little.
How do I sign in?
The app shows an 8-character code and a QR code. On your phone, open aromaott.com/activate or scan the QR code, enter the code and choose Yes, sign in. The code works for 10 minutes and only once.
Why does storage matter on these devices?
The Mi Box S and the sticks come with little storage, and system updates take part of it. If the install stops with a space error, or the app is slow to open:
- Uninstall apps you no longer use.
- Delete old files in Downloader's file list.
- Restart the device and install again.
Since version 2.2.6, the app keeps very large playlists in a compact form and opens them at once, which also keeps memory use low on these devices.
What can the HD stick play?
The HD Mi TV Stick outputs up to 1080p. A 4K channel either plays downscaled or, if the chip cannot decode it, gives sound without picture. The 4K stick and the Mi Box S handle 4K output, but each stream must still use a video format the chip decodes. HEVC works on most recent Xiaomi devices; very high bitrates can still stall on Wi-Fi.
Which display settings help?
Depending on the firmware, you may find Match content frame rate or Auto frame rate under Settings → Device Preferences → Display & Sound. Names vary by firmware version, and some versions have no such option.
- If motion judders on 50 Hz channels, try turning it on.
- If the screen blanks at every channel change, or full screen cuts while the preview is fine, turn it off.
From version 2.2.7, the player adds Settings → Player → Match TV refresh rate (off by default) and Video output (Automatic, Surface, Texture). Try Texture if full screen cuts and the TV settings did not help.
How do I get steadier live channels?
- Buffer size: Automatic by default since 2.2.5; choose Large on weak Wi-Fi.
- Wi-Fi: the sticks have no network port. Keep the router close, or use an HDMI extender so the stick is not hidden behind the TV.
- Power: use the adapter that came with the device rather than the TV's USB port, which may not give enough power.
What if something does not work?
- Downloader not listed under unknown sources: open Downloader once, then look again.
- "App not installed": uninstall an older copy first.
- Sound but no picture: the chip cannot decode that channel's video format.
- Anything else: copy Settings → About → Diagnostics for whoever manages your account.
