On an NVIDIA Shield TV or Shield TV Pro, install Downloader from Google Play, allow it under unknown sources, type aromaott.com/apk, install and sign in with a code from your phone. The Shield decodes most stream formats, so the one setting worth a look is frame-rate matching, which decides whether the screen switches to 50 Hz for broadcast channels.

How do I install the app on the Shield?

  1. Open Google Play on the Shield, search for Downloader and install it.
  2. Allow it to install apps: usually Settings → Device Preferences → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources, then turn it on for Downloader. Names vary by software version.
  3. Open Downloader, type aromaott.com/apk and select Go.
  4. Select Install, then Open.
  5. Delete the downloaded file when Downloader offers it.

How do I sign in?

The app shows an 8-character code and a QR code. Approve it on your phone at aromaott.com/activate with Yes, sign in. The code is valid for 10 minutes.

What are the Shield's frame-rate options?

The Shield can switch the TV's refresh rate to match the video. You usually find it under Settings → Device Preferences → Display & Sound → Advanced settings. It may be called Match content frame rate or Match frame rate, and names vary by software version. Some versions offer a simple on/off switch, others three choices:

Option What it does
Never (off) The screen stays at the menu rate, usually 60 Hz
Seamless only Switches only when the TV can do it without a blank screen
Always Switches whenever the video's rate differs, with a short blank

For live channels:

  1. Start with off. Many people find zapping smoother this way.
  2. If 50 Hz channels judder, turn it on, or choose Seamless only if offered.
  3. Choose Always only if judder stays and you accept a short blank at channel changes.

If the screen blanks in full screen while the small preview plays fine, frame-rate switching is the first suspect: go back to off.

How does the player's own setting fit in?

From version 2.2.7, Settings → Player → Match TV refresh rate (off by default) lets the app ask for the matching rate itself. On the Shield, the system's own setting already covers this, so keep the player's setting off unless the Shield's option is off and you want switching only in AromaOtt Player.

Video output (Automatic, Surface, Texture), also from 2.2.7, can stay on Automatic on the Shield. Try Texture only if full screen cuts after you ruled out frame-rate switching.

What about upscaling and picture options?

The Shield has its own upscaling options for content below 4K. They change how sharp the picture looks, not whether a stream plays. If fast motion on a live channel shows artefacts, try the plainer upscaling mode and see whether you prefer it.

How do I get the steadiest live playback?

  • Use the Ethernet port instead of Wi-Fi where possible.
  • Leave Settings → Player → Buffer size on Automatic, the default since 2.2.5. Choose Large if your connection is unsteady.
  • If your line allows one connection, make sure no other device is playing on it.

Since version 2.2.6, very large playlists open at once, and lists load as you open them.

What if something goes wrong?

  • Install blocked: Downloader is not yet allowed under unknown sources.
  • A channel stays black with sound: the stream may use a format that even the Shield's chip does not decode; try the other live format in Settings → Player → Live stream format.
  • Anything else: copy Settings → About → Diagnostics and send it to whoever manages your account.

Questions and answers

Which frame-rate setting should I use on the Shield?

Start with matching off. If 50 Hz channels judder, turn matching on (Seamless only, if your version offers it). If the screen blanks at every channel change, go back to off.

Should I use the Ethernet port?

Yes, if you can. A cable is steadier than Wi-Fi for live channels, especially at high bitrates.

Does the Shield need special app settings?

Usually not. Automatic buffer and Automatic video output suit it. Change them only if you see a specific problem.
