To install AromaOtt Player on an Android TV or Google TV, install the free Downloader app from Google Play on the TV, allow Downloader to install apps, then type aromaott.com/apk in Downloader and select Go. When the download ends, select Install and Open, and sign in with a code you approve on your phone.
What do I need?
- An Android TV or Google TV device: a smart TV with Android TV or Google TV built in, or a streaming box or stick running it.
- An AromaOtt member account activated by the operator.
- A phone or computer nearby to approve the sign-in code (optional, but easier than typing a password with the remote).
AromaOtt Player is not in Google Play. The Downloader app is only used to fetch the file from aromaott.com.
How do I install it, step by step?
- On the TV, open Google Play, search for Downloader and install it. It is free.
- Allow Downloader to install apps. Go to Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources and turn it on for Downloader. Menu names vary a little by brand, so look for Unknown sources or Install unknown apps if the path differs.
- Open Downloader. In the address box, type aromaott.com/apk and select Go. The download starts by itself.
- When Downloader shows the installer, select Install, then Open.
- Downloader then offers to delete the downloaded file. You can delete it: the app stays installed.
If the /app page on aromaott.com shows a short Downloader code, you can type that code in step 3 instead of the address. Both lead to the same current APK.
How do I sign in on the TV?
The signed-out app opens on the TV sign-in screen:
- The TV shows an 8-character code and a QR code.
- On your phone, scan the QR code, or open aromaott.com/activate and type the code.
- The phone shows which device is asking and from which country. Choose Yes, sign in.
- The TV signs in by itself a moment later.
The code is valid for 10 minutes and works once. You can also enter an activation code with the remote, or sign in with your username and password.
Where does the app appear on the TV?
AromaOtt Player appears in the list of apps with its own banner. On most Android TV and Google TV home screens you can move it to your favourites row so it is always one click away.
Will the app update itself?
Yes. Every time it starts, the app checks aromaott.com for a newer version and offers to install it. The first time, Android may ask you to allow AromaOtt Player to install apps: turn on Allow from this source, then press Back. Updates are downloaded only from aromaott.com and checked before they are installed.
What if something goes wrong?
- Downloader says the address is not found: check the spelling, aromaott.com/apk, with no www and no spaces.
- The install button is greyed out or nothing happens: the "unknown sources" switch is not on for Downloader yet. Repeat step 2.
- "App not installed": an older build with a different signature may be installed. Uninstall it first.
- The TV sign-in code expired: select Get a new code.
- Device limit reached: the TV lists the devices using your account and lets you sign one of them out to continue here.
How does the app behave with a remote?
The TV screens are made for arrow-key navigation: OK opens, Back goes back and, from the home screen, leaves the app. In the player, Channel up and down change channel, and play/pause works as expected. The article on remote navigation lists every button.
