A Samsung smart TV runs Tizen, so it cannot install the AromaOtt Player app. You have two options: open aromaott.com in the TV's browser, where the web player switches to TV mode and you sign in with a code from your phone, or plug a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV device into the TV and install the app there. The browser is quick to try; the stick plays more streams.
Why is there no Samsung app?
The app is built for Android. Samsung sets, whatever their size, use Samsung's own Tizen system, which runs only apps made for it. AromaOtt Player is not in Samsung's app store, and an APK file cannot be installed on Tizen. The short address aromaott.com/apk is therefore of no use on the TV itself.
How do I use the web player on a Samsung TV?
- On the TV's home bar, open the browser. On most Samsung sets it is called Internet. Names vary by model year.
- Open the address bar and type aromaott.com.
- The site recognises a TV browser and shows Sign in on this TV with an 8-character code and a QR code. If you see the normal sign-in page instead, choose Member sign-in, then Sign in with a code.
- On your phone, scan the QR code or open aromaott.com/activate, type the code and choose Yes, sign in.
- The web player opens in TV mode, with large text and remote navigation.
If TV mode is not on, switch it on in your account settings under TV mode.
What works in the browser?
- Live TV, Movies and Series from your playlist, with categories, searches and the A–Z strip.
- Navigation with the arrow keys, OK and Back on the Samsung remote.
- My List, kept in that browser on the TV.
- Resume points and watched marks, saved with your account.
- Several playlists, if your account has them.
What does not work, or not on every model?
- Some streams do not play. TV browsers support fewer formats than the Android app. HEVC video or some broadcast audio formats may not play, depending on the model and its year.
- http playlists. A secure page cannot load http video. For such a playlist, the web player either plays it through our server with a short notice, or moves to its plain http page, the HTTP player, where the browser reaches the provider itself. Whether that works depends on the browser and on the provider.
- No app settings. The buffer, live format and, from version 2.2.7, refresh-rate and video-output settings exist only in the Android app.
- No updates to install. The web player is always the current version.
Try your own playlist in the browser before relying on it for a big live event.
When is a stick the better choice?
Choose a Fire TV Stick (2nd generation or newer) or an Android TV device if:
- channels cut or do not start in the browser;
- one-connection lines need the steadier live playback of the app;
- you want the app's buffer and live-format settings.
Plug the stick into a free HDMI port, select that input with the Samsung remote, and follow the Fire TV or Android TV guide.
Which Samsung TV settings matter?
With a stick connected, the Samsung's picture settings still apply. Motion smoothing (often under Picture → Expert settings, with names that vary by model year) can be worth switching off for live channels if fast motion shows artefacts. Game mode or input labels make no difference to the app.
Does the browser count as a device?
Yes. The Samsung browser takes one of your account's device places, like a phone or a stick. Sign out in the account menu frees it. If the browser's cookies are cleared, it may count as a new device next time.
