AromaOtt Player is not in Google Play, the Amazon Appstore or any other app store. It is a private player for an operator's members, activated by the operator, with no public sign-up and no content of its own, so it is offered only as a direct download from aromaott.com/app. The app then updates itself from aromaott.com, and every update is checked before it is installed.
Why is it not in the stores?
Two reasons, both honest:
- It is made for a limited group of members. App stores are built for apps anyone can download and use. AromaOtt Player does nothing until the operator activates your account, and there is no way to sign up in it. A store listing would mostly reach people who cannot use it.
- It is a player for playlists it does not supply. AromaOtt Player has no channels, movies or series of its own; it plays the playlist your provider set up or one you add. App stores have their own rules for apps that play media from outside sources, and a direct download is the simplest way to offer the player to members without pretending it is something else.
That is why you will not find store badges on aromaott.com, and why the site never claims the app is in any store.
How do I install it then?
- Android phone or tablet: open aromaott.com/app, tap Download for Android, open the file and tap Install. Android asks once to allow your browser to install apps.
- Fire TV and Android TV / Google TV: install the free Downloader app from your TV's store, type aromaott.com/apk and select Go.
- iPhone, iPad, computers, Samsung and LG TVs: use the web player in the browser at aromaott.com.
Is a direct download safe?
It is as safe as its source, which is why the rules are simple:
- Only download from aromaott.com. Never install an "AromaOtt" APK from anywhere else.
- Updates come only from aromaott.com. The app checks for a new version each time it starts, downloads it from aromaott.com and checks the file before installing it. A damaged download is deleted.
- Android protects the installed app. An update is only installed over the existing app if it is signed with the same key, so a different file cannot replace it.
- The permission is narrow. "Install unknown apps" is given to one app, such as your browser or Downloader, and you can turn it off after installing.
What do I miss without a store?
Very little:
- Automatic updates: the app updates itself, without a store.
- Update history: aromaott.com/app lists every version with what changed, and links older versions.
- Reviews and ratings: there are none, and we do not publish any. You can judge the player by using it.
Will it come to the stores later?
There is nothing to announce. If that ever changes, aromaott.com/app will say so. Until then, install the app only from aromaott.com.
Are there different editions of the app?
Settings → About shows an edition. The app you download from aromaott.com is the direct edition, the one described in these articles, with your own playlists and direct play on the device.
What about TVs without Android?
There is no app for Samsung, LG or other TV systems. Their web browsers can open the web player, which switches to TV mode for the remote. Browsers differ from model to model, and some may not play every stream, so it is worth trying with your playlist before relying on it.
